Morning reflective practice

  ~Being with Dying 24th May, 2016

While inhaling, you take in heavy, foggy, dark, hot air like pain or suffering.
While exhaling, you offer clear, light cool air.
While inhaling, you take other’s suffering or pain into your heart.
While exhaling, you offer space to surround the person.
This visualization instructed by Roshi was pretty much similar to medical practice, I thought.
When I face to patients, I feel and catch their pain or suffering in my heart. Then I offer some positive advice or comment with kindness and tenderness to their hearts.

This is the repeated process of acceptance and letting go, like breath.
In the very severe situation at palliative care unit in hospital, sometimes I can’t find positive words. But yes, I can show the sincere attitude to be with the person. His/her body sensing could make the person ease, I realized it this morning.
“While exhaling, you offer the space surround the patients.”
This offering is very important not to release negativity from medical practitioners but for giving freedom to patients.

Every moment in medical practice, I should have this attitude.

What a nice morning I have…

I’m so glad..
